Should AI skills become a basic workplace skill like email and spreadsheets, and how should people learn them?

AI may create new jobs, but it may also change what employers expect from everyone. Even pharmacists, nurses, accountants, teachers, and office staff may be expected to use AI tools as part of normal work.

Take spreadsheets as an example. Not everybody in the workplace uses them, and those who use spreadsheets use them to different levels and for various purposes. Even if knowledge of spreadsheets is not in the one's job description, knowledge and useage of it can propel the user to higher levels of productivity and achievements resulting in a career advancement. Then, there are jobs that knowledge of spreadsheets is essential and put in the job description.

In the office workplace AI is somewhat similar. It may be required in some cases, but can also be leveraged by employees even if it is not in their job description.

People can learn AI through courses just like they do spreadsheets.
