Traditional Recipe Preservation.

My grandmother never used measuring cups. She cooked by sight, smell, touch, and experience. Some of her recipes died with her because nobody wrote them down.

As younger generations rely more on YouTube and food apps, are we losing traditional family recipes and cooking knowledge?

What family recipes do you think should be preserved, and how would you preserve it?

In Filipino families, recipes are often passed verbally.

My grandmother's chicken adobo is something I hope never disappears.

Chicken Adobo

Ingredients:

1 kg chicken
½ cup soy sauce
½ cup vinegar
6 garlic cloves
2 bay leaves
Black pepper

Method:

Marinate chicken in soy sauce and garlic.
Simmer with vinegar, bay leaves, and pepper.
Cook until sauce reduces.

I think every family should record elders cooking while they still can.

In China, recipes are often regional and family-specific.

My family's braised pork recipe has been passed down four generations.

The challenge is that older cooks rarely measure ingredients.

Instead of written recipes, I prefer video archives showing techniques, timing, and texture.

Punjabi cooking contains many recipes that younger people no longer make regularly.

One example is Sarson da Saag.

Ingredients:

Mustard greens
Spinach
Ginger
Garlic
Green chilies
Cornmeal

The process takes several hours and many younger families choose faster meals.

If traditional recipes disappear, part of our culture disappears too.

Mexican families face the same challenge.

Every region has unique mole recipes.

Some contain twenty or more ingredients.

When a grandmother passes away without documenting her recipe, an entire piece of family history can vanish.

When my grandmother cooks, she tells us where ingredients came from and how food was prepared during difficult times.

Those memories are just as valuable as the recipe itself.
