Has Online Shopping Made Us Better or Worse Consumers?
Shopping has changed dramatically over the past twenty years. Today, we can compare prices, read reviews, and have products delivered to our homes within days or even hours.
At the same time, some people argue that online shopping encourages impulse buying and weakens local businesses.
Do you prefer shopping online or in physical stores? Has modern shopping made us more informed consumers, or has it simply made it easier to buy things we do not really need?

I use both, but for different reasons.
Online shopping is excellent for research. I can compare products, read customer reviews, and often find better prices. However, I still prefer physical stores for clothing, furniture, and anything where quality, fit, or appearance matters.
Convenience is valuable, but some purchases benefit from being seen in person.

I still prefer local stores whenever possible.
If I need tools, hardware, or work equipment, I want to see the product before buying it. I also appreciate being able to ask knowledgeable staff questions.
Online shopping saves time, but local businesses provide expertise that websites often cannot.

One concern I have is impulse buying.
Online stores are designed to encourage additional purchases through recommendations, flash sales, and targeted advertising. Sometimes it becomes too easy to buy something simply because it appears on your screen.
Convenience can occasionally work against good decision-making.

I appreciate the convenience of online shopping, especially for items that are difficult to find locally.
However, I miss the personal interactions that used to be part of shopping. Small shop owners often knew their customers and could provide recommendations based on experience rather than algorithms.
Something valuable has been lost.

As an immigrant, online shopping helped me find products from home that were difficult to locate locally.
Food, books, and cultural items became much more accessible. In that sense, online shopping can help people maintain connections to their heritage.
Global access can be a positive thing.
