Is It Harder to Build Friendships Today Than It Used to Be?
Many people today are more connected through technology than ever before, yet surveys often suggest that loneliness and social isolation are increasing.
In the past, people often built friendships through neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, religious communities, and local organizations. Today, social media and online communities play a much larger role.
Do you think it is harder to make and maintain friendships today? What helps you build meaningful social connections?

I think making connections has become easier, but building deep friendships has become harder.
Technology allows us to meet people from anywhere in the world, but meaningful friendships still require time, trust, and shared experiences. A large number of online contacts is not the same as having a few close friends.

For me, friendships often grow through shared activities.
Work, sports, volunteering, and community projects naturally bring people together. The challenge today is that many people seem busier and more distracted than before.
Strong friendships usually require consistent effort.

Moving between cities and countries can make social life more complicated.
When people relocate for education, employment, or family reasons, they often leave established social networks behind. Building new friendships takes courage and patience.

I believe face-to-face interaction remains important.
Phone calls, messages, and social media are useful, but there is something special about sharing meals, conversations, and experiences in person. Relationships often deepen when people spend time together physically.
Human presence matters.

As an immigrant, I experienced both loneliness and opportunity.
Leaving familiar surroundings was difficult, but it also encouraged me to meet new people and become involved in local activities. Some of my closest friendships today began because I stepped outside my comfort zone.
