Which recent development in Toronto will have the biggest impact on residents over the next few years?

Toronto has seen several major developments recently. The city is preparing to host FIFA World Cup matches, transit agencies are expanding service plans, the Eglinton Crosstown (Line 5) has finally opened after years of construction, and new investments are being announced in sports and community infrastructure.

Of all the recent news stories and developments, which one do you think will have the greatest long-term impact on everyday life in Toronto?

For me, it's the opening of Line 5 Eglinton. The World Cup will last a few weeks, but a major transit line affects residents every day for decades. People along the Eglinton corridor are already experiencing shorter travel times and better connections across the city.

I think hosting the FIFA World Cup could have the biggest impact. The event is accelerating infrastructure improvements, transit planning, tourism promotion, and international visibility for Toronto. Those benefits could continue long after the tournament ends.

I'm watching the new investments in community and sports infrastructure. Projects like the planned training facility for Toronto's new WNBA team could create opportunities for youth programs, recreation, and local economic activity.

The story that concerns me most is housing affordability. Many of the city's other challenges—health, transportation, workforce shortages, and community stability—are connected to housing. I think this issue will continue to shape local policy discussions for years.

I agree with Michael regarding transit. Cities grow around transportation networks. The opening of Line 5 and future extensions could influence where people live, work, and invest across Toronto for decades.
